Postpartum
Don’t forget about the “4th trimester.”
What do we do now that we have a baby?
Try to get as much sleep as possible between the every 3 hour feeds during the first couple weeks of survival mode.
Breastfeeding positioning: Nose to nipple, tummy to tummy.
Breastfeeding timing: 15 minutes on each breast, start feeds at most 3 hours from previous feed.
Don’t forget to feed and hydrate yourself!
And remember, if you’re struggling, seek help and please remember that Fed Is Best
(ie. pumping or formula with a bottle given by someone else is ok!)
You are doing your best! Don’t forget to book your 4-6 week visit and see your family doctor in the interim.
For any emergencies (extra bleeding, pain, fever), ask your family doctor, MW or OB if you should see them or go to emergency room. Gynecologists are on call in hospital.
